SUMMER MATHEMATICS OPPORTUNITIES (for undergrads)
Counselors needed for outreach programs
1) YSP – SESAME
Young Scholars Program (YSP)
(Counseling mathematically talented high school students)
Dates: June 25 – July 27, 2012
Time: 9:30am – 2:30pm, Monday – Friday
Compensation: $3,000
SESAME Program
(Counseling Chicago Public School teachers)
Dates: July 30 – August 10, 2012
Time: 9:00am – 4:00pm, Monday – Friday
Compensation: $1,200
Counselors may work both YSP and SESAME if they wish.
There will be two seminars at different levels of advanced mathematics topics conducted in the style of Inquiry Based Learning (IBL). These seminars will take place in the afternoons after the regular daily schedule is completed.
2) Collegiate Scholars Program (CSP)
(Counseling minority high school students from Chicago Public Schools)
June 25 – August 3, 2012
Time: 8:30am – 1:30pm, Monday – Friday
Compensation: $3,000
Counselors in Collegiate Scholars Program will also participate in the Inquiry Based Learning seminars.
3) Polk Brothers Program
(Counseling Chicago Public School teachers)
Dates: June 25 – July 26, 2012
Time: 8:30am - 12noon, Monday – Thursday, (Open Approach to Teaching Mathematics)
Time: 1:30pm - 4:30pm, Monday – Thursday, (Calculus and Geometry)
Compensation: $3,000 per class per counselor
