Topology seminar talk information

ABSTRACT: If you submit an abstract for your talk, you should submit it html format, and not latex, since the department calendar requires html format. Plain text abstracts are also fine.

YOUR TALK: Seminar talks are usually 60 minutes, usually Tuesdays 4:30-5:30, preceded by tea 4:00-4:30 and immediately followed by dinner at a local restaurant. This is usually SUPPLEMENTED with informal/background discussions with the speaker 3:00-4:00, ie before the talk, at a level aimed at graduate students, in the same room as the talk.

THE ROOM: The room Eckhart 203 has 6+ blackboards. If you need an overhead projector, just tell your host at tea immediately before your talk. (We do NOT have computer projectors set up (yet, sigh..), but if you bring your laptop to work on while here, you'll be able to get it online via dhcp without problems.)

DINNER: We usually invite the speaker to dinner immediately after the talk. Trying to catch a flight the same night is not advisable.

LOCATION: Click here to see the location of Eckhart Hall where the math department is.

AIRPORTS: Chicago has two airports of which MIDWAY is by far the most convenient. Click here for more airport information including getting here from the airport.

DRIVING AND PARKING: Click here for more directions, including driving directions. There is free street parking on most streets around the math department (drive around and you will find...).

IF YOU ARE RENTING A CAR: REFUSE ALL insurance options, you are covered by UofC insurance if the purpose of the car rental is giving a talk at UofC. Due to university policy, the university cannot reimburse these expenses. (Contact Dorothy, address below, if you have specific questions about this policy.)

TICKETS AND RECEIPTS: Remember to save your receipts. In particular if you are flying on an e-ticket, ask for a printed receipt when you get your boarding pass. We appreciate if you try to find as cheap an airline ticket as possible. If you cannot find a ticket for less than $500, you should email your host since this requires special permission from the department chairman.

REIMBURSEMENT: Remember to submit the reimbursement forms when you visit. The person in charge is: Reimbursement Specialist Dorothy Frazier, Eckhart 208A, 5734 So. University, Chicago, IL 60637, 773/834-4312, (d-frazier at uchicago.edu). You can either go to her directly or see your host. If you go yourself, the grant name is "RTG".
