Personal Projects

This page is still under construction. In the future I will add more details.

I'm a bit of a technological tinkerer. For example, at home I have a Gentoo linux server running apache, sshd, samba and subversion. I use this server for accessing my files remotely, keeping a database of my work, the revisions it goes through and for dealing with a fairly complex backup process.

I maintain a personal wiki for keeping notes (mathematical and computer related).

I have had two hard drives fail on me in the last six months so I have become fairly paranoid with my data. I have set up a (mostly) automated backup procedure that works (very efficiently) on linux, mac and windows. This includes backups to separate hard drives and a nightly backup to an inexpensive amazon storage center. Because I needed a backup solution that could handle thousands of files, operate on any of the above operating systems, perform an inexpensive remote backup and manage to keep data synchronized it took some time to solve his problem.

I have ripped my entire music collection and (nearly) all of my dvd's to a pair of large hard drives that are accessed through my XBox 360 (via a mac). This gives me the ability to play all of my music and videos through my tv/stereo via remote without having to handle disks. I'm also able to listen to my music collection via the internet from my laptop or my phone. The only cost involved here is $25 for the program to connect my Xbox to the mac (avoidable if you have a windows computer serving the files).
