TEXTBOOK: Foundations of Mathematical Analysis, Paul J. Sally, Jr.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is meant to be an introduction to mathematical proofs. We start with some set theory and basic analysis, including the construction of real numbers. We will end the quarter with some treatment of linear algebra, following chapter 2 of the second textbook.
EXAMS: There will be two in-class exams during the quarter. The first will be held on Friday, April 25; the second on Friday, May 16. The final exam will take place on Tuesday, June 10, from 4-6pm. Location to be announced later.
HOMEWORK: There will be weekly homework assignments (see the syllabus). The assignments will be collected on Fridays.
STUDY HINTS:
Before each class, you should both review the material from
recent sections and read the section to be discussed that day. This will allow you to both
understand the presentation of new material and identify questions that you need to resolve
during class.
