Text
Linear Functions and Matrix Theory by Bill Jacob. While this is not a great textbook, it is cheap and it will work as a reference. Another book you can consult is 'Linear algebra and its applications' by Gilbert Strang (on reserve in Eckhart library).

Homework
There will be two homework assignments every week. They will be (usually) due at the beginning of Wednesday and Friday classes. Late homework will not be accepted. You should feel free to discuss homework with other students, but the write-up must be your own. All homework assignments will be posted both on http://chalk.uchicago.edu and on http://math.uchicago.edu/~vasilyev/math196. Homework will be graded by the course assistant. Not all assigned problems will be graded, however you will not know ahead of time which ones will be graded.

There will be short quizzes at the beginning of Monday classes.
