The midterm is Wednesday Feb 7 in class. Extra office hours Monday Feb 5
from 4 to 6pm.
Homework 5
I have to admit I miscalculated how long the midterm would take, and
as a result most of you ran out of time. The problems were also a bit too
difficult. I apologize, and because of this I will disregard the midterm
when calculating the final grade if you did worse on the midterm than on
the homework and final. Also, the final will be easier (and not much
longer) than the midterm. If you get an A on the final and did above
average on the homework you will get an A. If you get a strong A on the
final you will get an A no matter what. I will also consider the trend in
the homework, by which I mean that if you started off badly but your
homework improves throughout the quarter then that will count positively.
So the best way to ensure a good grade is to start doing the homework from
now on.
