The hotel for this convention was the Canterbury, which had a Canterbury Tales theme, and this puzzle involved morris dancing (which Rowen and I deemed appropriate since it dates back to about the proper time). Specifically, on Friday there appeared (in the hospitality suite) a videotape of a local morris side (team), the Dead Ringers, dancing. In addition to carrying handkerchieves and wearing bells, each of them (six in all) was also wearing a letter of the alphabet; these were B, C, F, J, K, and V. In the "chorus" of the dance (a sequence repeated multiple times), pairs would interact and then separate: J/B, K/C, and F/V. This provides the information needed to get the hidden message from the puzzle.
